The honest
answers.
These are the questions Derron gets every week, written down so you don’t have to ask them on the phone (unless you want to — he likes the chat).
Booking & rates
How long you can stay, the old-fashioned booking process, and the deposit fine print.
How long do I have to stay?
It depends on the month. July and August are Saturday-to-Saturday weeks only — full weeks, no shorter stays. May, June, September, and October are flexible: weekends welcome with a two-night minimum. Sub-weekly openings sometimes pop up in summer when plans change, and we mention those when they happen.
How do I book?
Look at the photos so you know what you're getting — these are 1930s-era cabins, not a hotel. Decide who's coming and when. Then pick up the phone and call Derron, the owner. He'll ask about your family, figure out the cabin that fits, and hold your dates the old-fashioned way (by writing them down on a piece of paper). A $300 deposit confirms.
Is the deposit refundable?
No, it's non-refundable. We're a small family-run business and the summer keeps the place going year-round. That said — if life happens and you tell us before February 1st, we can transfer your deposit to different dates.
What to expect
What the cabins are actually like, and what's intentionally not here.
Are the cabins really right on the beach?
Yes. Cabin 1 and Cabin 2 open straight onto the sand. The rest are less than a minute's walk across sand. From inside any cabin, the beach feels like the front yard — because it is.
Is there Wi-Fi or a TV?
Nope. On purpose. The whole point is to leave home at home and be on the beach. We have board games at the office and long sunsets over the bay. If somebody really needs to check email, the cell signal is fine — but we'd quietly encourage you not to.
What's actually in the cabin?
Inside: a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, cookware), a bathroom with shower, beds for everyone, air conditioning, and a living room. Outside: a BBQ, a picnic table, kayaks, a volleyball net, horseshoes, Muskoka chairs, and bikes. The lake is on the house.
Are the cabins fancy?
No, and we're proud of that. They were built in the 1930s — uneven floors, wavy ceilings, kitchens cobbled together over the decades. That's the charm. If you're looking for a marble bathroom and a mini-bar, this isn't the place. If you remember what summers used to feel like, you'll be right at home.
What if the lake is high?
We have our own private beach area, so however high the water gets, there's always sand for your towel. Bonus: less crowd than the public stretches.
Logistics
Check-in times, parking, and what you need to bring along.
When can I check in and check out?
Check-in is 2:30pm. Check-out is 11:00am. Bring a piece of ID and your vehicle info (we keep a record).
How does parking work?
One free parking space per cabin. Three- and four-bedroom cabins get two. Extra vehicles are $25/day — let us know in advance so we can sort the spot.
What should I bring?
A great attitude, your own bedding, pillows, linens, towels, toiletries (yes, including toilet paper and soap), child life jackets if you need them, and groceries. We provide the cabin and the beach. You handle the rest. It's part of why the rates stay friendly.
Family, friends & pets
Visitors, dogs, cats, and the rules that keep everyone happy.
Can friends come visit?
Yes, if there's space. Fire code caps occupancy at two people per bedroom, so anyone staying overnight beyond that needs their own cabin. Day visitors are welcome — just give the office a heads up.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes — with a couple of conditions. Proof of flea treatment and rabies vaccination at arrival. Maximum 75 lbs. Dogs leave the property with you (no leaving them in the cabin alone — they get unhappy and so do the neighbours). Aggressive behavior means immediate removal at owner's expense. No exceptions on these — they keep the place welcoming for everyone.
Can I bring my cat?
No, and we're sorry. Too many of our guests have severe cat allergies, and the cabins turn over weekly — the dander stays. We have to draw the line for everyone's sake.
